The borough of Thurrock sits within the eastern boundary of Essex and is part of the Thames Gateway Redevelopment Zone. Despite its association with the River Thames and industry, 70% of the borough is in London’s Green Belt.

Thurrock is well known for the Lakeside Shopping Centre in Grays, still one the largest single site shopping centres in Europe and a major pull for consumers and retailers.

There is easy access from the M25 and there are good train services from the borough west into London and east to Southend. Thurrock also boasts much open countryside and numerous Sites of Special Scientific Interest.

Redevelopment for the future

As part of the Thames Gateway Redevelopment Zone, Thurrock is also a key location for redevelopment, commercially and for residential properties. Up to 30,000 new homes are expected to be built in the borough by 2037.
