Structural Engineering
Any building project or alteration in which the structure of a
property is changed will need structural engineering services. A
good example is the partial removal of an external wall when
building an extension.
Drawings and calculations prepared by a structural engineer will
usually be required in Building Regulations applications, not to
mention providing detailed technical instructions for the builder.
They will be essential to show compliance with building
regulations as the work come to a conclusion.
Extensions
Extensions – whether front, side or rear, or single or double
storey – will affect the structure of any building. Therefore, we’ll
need to assess changing load patterns; we will ensure the works
are engineered to retain the building’s full integrity.
Common examples are kitchen/living room extensions into the
garden, first floor additions onto an existing roof, and double
storey extensions. Our engineers will work alongside our
architects to deliver a design & build service that provides the
best outcome in the most elegant way.
Loft conversions
Loft conversions can add additional weight to load bearing walls
and foundations. Having our own structural engineers means that
these factors can be taken into account from the very beginning of
the project.
In turn, this is reflected in our design suggestions: by proposing a
given design or designs, we have already included the structural
considerations. With this knowledge we can help create the
maximum space within your budget.
Internal alterations and wall removals
Many alterations do not change the outside walls of a house,
but they might still impact upon the structure of the property.
This could be knocking through between two rooms to make a
larger one, or removing an internal wall completely.
Combining our architectural and engineering expertise, we’ll
find the best way of re-using existing structural elements. By
default, we will devise the best ways to replace supporting walls
so the new designs fit into the building as if they were always
there.
