What sort of loft conversion should we choose?

There are several variations to choose from, depending on what best suits your needs and your property. Whichever fits best, we will always maximising natural light as well as useable floor space. The principal loft conversion types are 

Loft conversion with rooflights – typically using Velux windows or similar. This will mean there is no change to the roof line, which can be an advantage in the 29 conservations areas in and around Ealing. Careful positioning of rooflight windows will produce a light and appealing new room – in fact, a classic loft space!

Dormer loft conversion – with individual dormer windows, or a full width one. The full-width version creates more floor area with full headroom. Full-width dormer conversions are sometimes incorrectly referred to as Mansard conversions.

Hip to gable loft conversion – the pitched roof is removed at the ‘end’ of the house; the end wall is extended up to form a new vertical gable, and the ridge is lengthened to meet it, with your chosen windows included in the modified roof.

Mansard loft conversion – the whole roof is remodelled. It takes on four or eight sloping sides, the lower of which are more steeply pitched. This creates more internal head height across the whole floor, with windows as chosen. A Mansard conversion will almost certainly need Planning Permission and also requires significant re-roofing as well.
